Scope and Content Notes

The Oregon State University Dads Club Records are comprised of materials documenting the club and its activities between 1933 and 2003. Administrative files include correspondence, financial reports, meeting minutes, information on officer elections, and other materials documenting the day-to-day operation of the club. The collection also includes membership lists, constitutions and amendments, photographs, and several publications produced by the club including the Dads Club Bulletin and the OSC Dads News Letter. The collection also includes extensive documentation of the club's philanthropic work including the management of the Dads Club scholarship fund, which provided tuition support to OSU students, and the Dads Club Merit Awards, which were presented to high-achieving high school students.

The collection also documents the annual events held or co-organized by the Dads Club--Dads Day, Dads Weekend, and Dads Banquet. The events encouraged fathers of students to become more involved in support of Oregon State University and featured many programs and activities held on campus. The records include planning materials, registration forms, invitation letters, reports, programs, financial records, and newsclippings.

Biographical / Historical Notes

The Oregon State University Dads Club was founded in October 1933 with the charge of loyalty to education in the state of Oregon; preservation of the traditions and usefulness of Oregon State College; and cooperation with kindred organizations. All men supporting this purpose were invited to join. The club ultimately formed subcommittees in numerous counties across the state, which sought donations to the Dads Club scholarship fund and identified recipients for the Dads Club Merit Awards. The Dads Club was also heavily involved in the planning of Dads Day (later Dads Weekend) activities and held an annual banquet for fathers and students. The Dean of Men (and later the Dean of Students) acted as liaison between the university and Dads Club.
