The William Q. Wick Papers document the career and research endeavors of William Q. Wick as a faculty member and administrator in Marine Advisory and Sea Grant programs at Oregon State University. The Papers include speeches; articles and essary; correspondence; newspaper clippings; certificates; and photographs.
The speeches (1972-1987) include conference papers, opening remarks and addresses, congressional testimony, and undated speech notes. The focus of the testimony is the re-authorization of Sea Grant funding and support of the National Aquaculture Organic Act. The articles and essays consist of reprints and final drafts of articles published in scientific journals and popular magazines between 1966 and 1989. Topics addressed include estuaries, marine extension education, coastal zone management, and the Pacific Sea Grant Advisory Program.
The correspondence (1968-1987) primarily pertains to Wick's appointment as Director of the Sea Grant program, attendance of conferences and meetings, receipt of awards, and communication with long-time colleagues. Newspaper clippings (1968-1976) from the Tillamook Headlight-Herald, Statesman-Journal, and Ocean Industry Magazine pertain to Wick's appointment as Sea Grant Director, receipt of awards, and appearance at various meetings and workshops. The two certificates were awarded to Wick by the Corvallis Kiwanis Club (1972) and the Salem Downtown Lions Club (1969) for his appearance as a guest speaker.
The photographs consist of two prints of a portrait photograph of Wick made in about 1970. Seven photographs of oyster beds and harvesting operations at an unidentified location, presumably the Oregon coast, are also included. These photographs were taken by Wick and featured in the Sea Grant Marine Advisory Program publication, Oyster Farming: Culturing, Harvesting and Processing a Product of the Pacific Coast Area.
