Abstract

The Robert Rankin Papers consist of materials that document Rankin's years as an Oregon State College student and his career as an engineer and engineering consultant.

Scope and Content Notes

The collection includes documentation relating to Rankin's work as a student at OSC, as a professional engineer and as an engineering consultant. It include correspondence, drawings and maps, newspaper clippings, notes, publications, studies and textbooks. There are also materials pertaining to rates charged by Pacific Power and Light to Corvallis customers, which Rankin actively contested as being too high. The textbooks were written by OSC Physics and Engineering Department faculty.

Biographical / Historical Notes

Graduating from Oregon State with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1950, Robert Rankin worked as a consultant on a number of projects in Washington state and Alaska in addition to a job with the engineering firm CH2M-Hill in Corvallis. Rankin also worked as an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at OSU for two terms in the 1956-1957 school year.
