Abstract

The Oregon Agricultural College chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta (originally called Delta Theta Sigma) was established in 1908; it has been called the first honorary society at the university. These records document the administration, membership, and activities of this honorary agricultural society.

Scope and Content Notes

The Gamma Sigma Delta Records document the administration, membership, and activities of the Oregon Zeta Chapter of this honorary agricultural society.

An addition to the Gamma Sigma Delta Records (Accession 2003:041) consists of records generated by the agricultural honorary society Gamma Sigma Delta and includes certificates, a charter, a constitution and bylaws, correspondence, fiscal records, meeting minutes, membership lists, annual update reports, and scholarship records. The scholarship records consist largely of award letters, announcements, and memoranda. Established in 1905, the Gamma Sigma Delta Honorary Society currently has 50 chapters nationwide. The OSU chapter was initially established in 1908 and then re-activated after a few years of dormancy in 1981.

A second addition to the Gamma Sigma Delta Records (Accession 2012:019) is made up of seven photographs documenting the 1988 Spring Banquet of the OSU Chapter of the Gamma Sigma Delta Honorary Society. Among those identified in these images include: Animal Sciences Professor Dale Weber, Food Science Professor Zoe Ann Holmes, Ray Seidler, Anna Cortell, Corinne McKenzie, L. Roger Fendall, and Mary Jane Weber.

A third addition to the Gamma Sigma Delta Records (Accession 2013:050) consists of records generated by the OSU Chapter of the Gamma Sigma Delta Honorary Society. In addition to annual reporting, these materials document the chapter's awarding of scholarships, the yearly induction ceremony of new members, and nomination of students to membership.
