Started in 1958, the Oregon Fryer Commission was created to promote the sale and consumption of Oregon-raised fryer chickens. The Commission advertised and promoted the chickens through television, and sponsoring events at the State Fair and other local events.
The Commission was disbanded in June 2009 after nearly all of Oregon producers were bought by California-based Foster Farms. Because the company did their own advertising, they did not need promotion through the Oregon Fryer Commission and the Commission didn't do enough educational or research work to justify remaining active.
