Abstract

The Fred W. Obermiller Papers consist of records generated by Obermiller, an OSU Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics, and includes article reprints, correspondence, grant proposals, instructional materials, newspaper clippings, publications, reports, and a slide presentation.

Scope and Content Notes

The collection includes records documenting Obermiller's career as a researcher and instructor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, employment as a university administrator, and involvement in associations, task forces, and councils relating to the use of rangeland. Materials reflecting Obermiller's work with the Oregon Division of State Lands on the study of grazing fees and the state land grazing policy can also be found in the collection. Instructional materials include lecture notes, course syllabi, sample tests, and class handouts/outlines. Also included are notes and papers generated by Obermiller as a graduate student at the University of Missouri.

Biographical / Historical Notes

Receiving his doctorate in Agricultural Economics from the University of Missouri, Frederick Obermiller came to OSU in 1974 to serve as an Assistant Professor and Extension Community Resource Development Specialist. Specializing in the study of natural resource law and policy analysis with an emphasis on rangeland resources and public land ranching, Obermiller was promoted to the post of Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics in 1984. Obermiller also served in a number of administrative posts at OSU, including Assistant to the Dean of the School of Agriculture, Head Advisor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, and membership on the Oregon Water Resources Research Institute.
