Scope and Content Notes

The Oregon State University Home Economics Alumni Association Records document the membership and activities of the organization. The administrative records include brochures, bylaws, certificates, correspondence, meeting minutes, membership and officer lists, newsletters, special event records, speeches and articles, and treasurer's reports. Photographs and a sound recording are part of the records. Materials pertaining to the 1988 centennial celebration for the College of Home Economics, a survey of home economics alumni, long-range planning for the association, a fundraising campaign for the Bates Hall Family Study Center, and symposia on home-based business development are included.

The records include College of Home Economics publications and long-range planning materials for the College.

The photographs depict events at the College's centennial celebration in 1988, including the sale of centennial memorabilia. These include b/w and color prints and color slides. The sound recording is an audiocassette tape of a focus group held at the 1988 centennial event to gather input from alumni for future planning for the organization.

Biographical / Historical Notes

The Oregon State University Home Economics Alumni Association was founded in 1971 to promote the growth and development of home economics at Oregon State; sponsor conferences, symposia, and special events; and foster fellowship among the members. Membership was open to all persons who had been enrolled as students with majors in the College (School) of Home Economics and non-alumni faculty. By the early 1990s, the mission had evolved to promote continued association between alumni and the home economics programs of the College and for the exchange of expertise, research, and skills among alumni, faculty, and students.
