Abstract

The Air Force ROTC Photographs consist of images of Air Force cadets at Oregon State University and document ROTC training and activities. The Air Force ROTC unit at Oregon State was established in 1949.

Images from this collection have been digitized and are available in Oregon Digital.

Scope and Content Notes

The Air Force ROTC Photographs document the ROTC unit's training and activities at Oregon State University. The images depict cadets in their squadron units, formal cadet inspections, physical training exercises, participation in the Arnold Air Society/Silver Wings National Conclave, and a wedding in the Memorial Union. Photographs of a football game half-time show featuring the Silver Wings Drill Team and Color Guard are also included.

Most of the items in the collection are color prints; a few b/w prints are included. About half of the photographs are in an album, with detailed descriptions, that was assembled by members of the Silver Wings Drill Team and Color Guard. These images depict the team marching in a parade as well as social activities.

An addition to the Air Force ROTC Photographs (Accession 2014:024) includes 14 composite group shots of Air Force ROTC students who had completed the commissioning process to become second lieutenants. Also found in this transfer is a newspaper clipping about the 1996 commissioning class (that was attached to the back of one of the composites) as well as a photograph print of the September 1997 OSU Alumni Marching band show salute to the U.S. Air Force.

Images from this collection have been digitized and are available in Oregon Digital.

Biographical / Historical Notes
