Dear Miss Ray:

   I have been most remiss in acknowledging the package of literature which you sent, and which did indeed reach me.  Thank you for it, and especially for writing me.  What an individual can do seems almost too small to be worth the time of a personal letter, so I appreciate it very much.  I shall hunt up Dr. Cooke's editorial at once;  thank you for bringing it to my attention. 

   Bad as my manners seem, I must confess that the important part of my request for extra literature has been done.  I discovered that no editors of various newspapers had received any folders, so I have been picking key people in various cities and towns, and sending them the three folders which you sent;  independent writers whom I know personally, two doctors who are rather wiser than run-of-the-mill, and so on. 

   I am so concerned at the pressure of time, and the extreme gravity of the question, that I shall confess to you that, if I did not have a son to put through college, and a living to earn, I should volunteer to do work on the spot for the Committee.  Since this is manifestly impossible, however,  I shall be grateful if you will allow me to do whatever small things an individual may accomplish.
