where my father was mayor & held many other offices. We were almost entirely from New England. Not one Catholic Cathedral, & not one Jewish Synagogue in the place. The only Catholic I knew was old Nora, 40 yrs a servant in my grandmother's family in Dexter, Michigan, near which place recently a general & leader of the White Russian forces in the revolution died. As to Jews I knew none at all & never met any. Such is my origin. We were republicans also [illegible], and followers of Lincoln, the great unionist.
