The Chester L. Proebstel Collection primarily documents Proebstel's time as a student and cadet at Oregon Agricultural College.

Scope and Content Notes

The Chester L. Proebstel Collection primarily consists of materials pertaining to Proebstel's time as an undergraduate at Oregon Agricultural College. Collection items include Proebstel's various degrees, cadet certificates and records; his certificate of acceptance into the American Electrochemical Society; correspondence and letters of recommendation; his college transcript; commencement materials, an OAC banner, Daily Barometers, and an alumni directory. The collection also houses Proebstel's high school graduation materials and other various personal items.

Biographical / Historical Notes

Chester Lloyd Proebstel was born February 1882 in Washington to Julius and Celia Proebstel.  He graduated from Portland High School in June 1901.  After graduation, he attended Oregon Agricultural College as a student and cadet.  He graduated in June 1904 with a Bachelors of Science in Mining.

After graduation he worked as a mining engineer.  He also became a member of the American Electrochemical Society in February 1909 and earned his Professional Engineer certificate in December 1919.

Proebstel passed away December 1947 in Shasta, California.  He was survived by his wife, Elta Vivian, and four children.
