Abstract

The Lillian Jeffreys Petri Collection consists of piano instruction and technique publications, Mind Over Muscle and Music Fundamentals Correlated, written by Petri.  Lillian Jeffreys Petri was a faculty member in music at Oregon State College from 1924 to 1947.

Scope and Content Notes

The Lillian Jeffreys Petri Collection consists of the piano instruction and technique publications, Mind over Muscle: A Technical Economy for Pianists (1924) and Music Fundamentals Correlated (1927), written by Petri.  Mind Over Muscle is a manuscript draft.  Music Fundamentals Correlated consists of three bound volumes with handwritten notes by Iris Gray, who studied piano with Lillian Petri.

Biographical / Historical Notes

Lillian Jeffreys Petri was a faculty member in music at Oregon State College from 1924 to 1947 and head of the Department of Piano and Theory.  She retired from Oregon State in 1947 and continued to live in Corvallis until her death in 1955. She was married to Paul Petri, who was also a faculty member in music.

Acquisition Note: These materials were transferred to the former University Archives by the Music Department in 2001.

Related Materials: The Special Collections and Archives Research Center's holdings include the Music Department Records (RG 148) and the Music Department Photograph Collection (P 137) as well as the collection of Catherine Perry (MSS Perry), a Corvallis music teacher who studied piano with and was a friend of Petri.  The Helen Lepper Diary (MSS Lepper) includes references to Lillian Petri and the Helen E. Plinkiewisch Papers (MSS Plinkiewisch) includes correspondence with Lillian and Paul Petri.
