Abstract

This collection consists of materials collected and generated by alumna Jessie Bump and includes class notes, instructional notes for millinery projects (hats), and clippings from magazines and newspapers.

Scope and Content Notes

The class notes included in the Jessie Bump Papers were taken for a course in applied design and color (HA 428) and include project sketches. In addition to articles with design outlines for sewing projects, the clippings show decorative trims and other artistic details from publication advertisements.

Biographical / Historical Notes

Born in Perrydale, Oregon in 1880, Jessie Bump initially attended Oregon Agricultural College (OAC) during the 1896-97 school year. She returned in 1918 and then again in 1923 to complete her undergraduate degree in Home Economics, which she obtained in 1924. Working as a mother and teacher between her years as a student, Bump attended OAC at the same time as two of her children, Victor Leland and Chester Allen Bump.
