Abstract

The Oregon State College Clippings Scrapbooks consist of clippings from Oregon newspapers, primarily the Oregonian, Oregon Journal, Eugene Register-Guard, and Corvallis Gazette-Times.

Scope and Content Notes

The Oregon State College Clippings Scrapbooks consist of clippings from Oregon newspapers, primarily the Oregonian, Oregon Journal, Eugene Register-Guard, and Corvallis Gazette-Times. Many of the clippings pertain to the early years of the Oregon State System of Higher Education, the appointment of William Jasper Kerr as Chancellor, and the controversy between Oregon State College and the University of Oregon regarding the consolidation of academic programs and curriculum revisions. Seven scrapbooks exist for the period 1935-1944. The 1952-1957 clippings are not affixed to scrapbook pages.

The contents of the scrapbooks pertain to the curriculum controversy between OSC and the University of Oregon, the "W.J. Kerr Chancellor Controversy, consolidation of OSC and the University of Oregon, W.J. Kerr's appointment as Chancellor, legislative appropriations, and the Board of Higher Eduction.

Related Materials: Newspaper clippings scrapbooks that include articles about Oregon State and/or that were written by Oregon State students and published in Oregon newspapers during the period 1918-1951 are available in the Journalism Department Records (RG 091). Clippings pertaining to the presidency of W.J. Kerr are available in the President's Office Records of William Jasper Kerr (RG 013 - SG 07). Many other collections of institutional records, personal papers, and organizational records include clippings files or scrapbooks.
