Abstract

The Ralph Berry Papers document Berry's thirty-three year career as an entomologist at Oregon State University. The collection includes a large number photographic slides depicting insects in various stages of development, as well as an assortment of manuscript and classroom materials developed by Berry for use in research and teaching.

Scope and Content Notes

Accession 2001:070 consists of materials generated by Berry and contains articles, audiotapes, conference proceedings, correspondence, films and videotapes, grant proposals, manuscript drafts, meeting minutes, photographs, publications, research reports, and computer software. Primarily relating to Berry's research regarding insect pest management, these records also document Berry's committee work, involvement in conferences and workshops, and publication of the guide "Insects and Mites of Economic Importance to the Northwest."

Accession 2006:085 consists of photographic slides (totaling about 3,100 in all) generated and collected by Ralph Berry depicting insects in various stages of development, pesticide application to crops, insect damage to plants, and morphology diagrams of insect body structures. Used by Berry in slide presentations for Entomology 311, "Introduction to Insect Pest Management," these images are primarily organized by lecture topics explored in the class such as insect structure and function, insects affecting small fruits, family identification, and insects of man and animals. Also included in this transfer are lecture handouts and exam blanks for Berry's Entomology 311 course as well as five VHS videotapes with programs on pest management, heliothis resistence research, and the creation of wetlands for wildlife by farmers

In accession 2006:085 slides housed in carousel trays and racks have been removed and placed into mylar slide pages. Other slides in this transfer found stored in metal boxes have been retained in their original containers.

Biographical / Historical Notes
