Oregon State College Clipping Scrapbooks, 1908-1957

The Oregon State College Clippings Scrapbooks were formerly in the main library collection.  They were transferred to the Archives in 1979, and other accessions have been added since.

The earliest scrapbooks (1935-1944) and some clippings may have been collected by Adolph Ziefle, Dean of Pharmacy.  Adolph Ziefle, a native of Michigan, came to Oregon Agricultural College in 1914 as head of the Department of Pharmacy. When the department became the School of Pharmacy in 1917, Ziefle was appointed Dean, a position he held until his retirement in 1945.

Other early clippings from the 1930s may have been collected by William Arthur Jensen, Executive Secretary to Oregon State College Presidents Kerr and Peavy.  Jensen came with Kerr when he left Utah State College for OSC in 1907.  Jensen was also a member of the college's administrative council, and served as de facto president of OAC while Kerr was out recuperating. The campus gates were dedicated to Jensen for his strong support of WPA art projects on campus during the 1930s.

The remaining clippings may have been collected by the OSC News Bureau. The News Bureau gathered and distributed college related news.
