The Ken Gray Photograph Collection consists of prints and negatives depicting various types of insects at their larval and adult stages.
Images from this collection have been digitized and are available in Oregon Digital.
Accession 2005:043 includes about 35,000 images in total (14,000 35mm negatives and 21,000 prints), about half of the prints are in notebook pages in which insects are categorized by the types of vegetation and man-made products they impact. The notebook images are also classified by roles the insects assume in the wild, such as predators, pollinators and scavengers. The negatives and other prints are in envelopes arranged in numerical order. Also included with the photographs is an index to the film negatives, an alphabetically arranged list of the insects featured in the images, a catalog of images made into slides, and correspondence between Gray and OSU entomologists and others regarding identification of the specimens he captured on film.
Accession 2011:080 includes images grouped together by their order classification (formicidae, noctuidae) which are also identified by their common names as well (moths, butterflies, yellowjackets, boxelder beetles, flies, earwigs, ants). Numbering roughly 250 prints in the 3 notebooks, these images also include information on the photographer, date taken, and where the insect originated.
