The Geosciences Department Records contain biographical files maintained by the department as well as correspondence generated by Geology Professor William H. Taubeneck.

Scope and Content Notes

Accession 2002:038 consists of Geology Professor William H. Taubeneck's correspondance. Included among the subjects addressed in the records are: the Oregon State Board of Higher Education's response to student protest and unrest on campus, spatial needs of the Geology Department, the construction of the Earth Sciences building, and the recruitment of students and faculty to the department. Coming to OSU in 1951 to teach in the Geology Department as an Instructor, William Taubeneck was promoted to Professor in 1965. He became Professor Emeritus in 1983.

Accession 2006:037 is made up of faculty biographical files generated and maintained by the Geosciences Department documenting Geoscience faculty research projects, instruction, outside hobbies, and mortality. The files include correspondence, curriculum vitae, grant proposals, newspaper clippings, photographs, reports, and seminar flyers. Also included in this transfer are correspondence and reports pertaining to long-range department planning, guidelines for managing budget/program reductions, the international activity of Geoscience faculty, and the merger of the Geology and Geography Departments that formed the Geosciences Department in 1989.
