Scope and Content Notes

The collection includes records documenting research and extension programs of the Soil Science Department during the Chairmanship of Horace B. (Ace) Cheney from 1952 to 1977, the bulk of the materials dating to the 1960s and 1970s. These records include correspondence, reports, research project files, teaching materials, policies and procedures, and committee records. The Faculty and Staff files contain correspondence, travel and sabbatical reports, and biographical information. The collection also includes three reports by W.L. Powers pertaining to soils, irrigation, and fertilizers: "Major Soil Types of Oregon" by W.L. Powers and E.F. Torgerson; "Methods of Preparing Land and Applying Irrigation Water"; and "Fertilizer Requirements of Peat Soils and Crops."
