Abstract

The Donald Wesley Morse Photograph Album was assembled by Morse, an alumnus, and documents his experience at Oregon Agricultural College as a student from 1917 to 1921.

Scope and Content Notes

The album includes photographs and images clipped from various magazines and publications showing the college, stylized representations of athletes, natural landscapes and performers of the stage and screen. Images related to OAC include shots of fellow students (most of whom are identified), the Phi Delta Theta fraternity house and members, debate team members and contests, baseball and football players, the Rook/Sophomore Tug-of-War, and campus buildings. Family members, including Morse' wife Marguerite, are also depicted in this album. Also documented is Morse's convalescence in a veteran's hospital in Walla Walla, Washington for the tuberculosis that he contracted during World War I.

Biographical / Historical Notes

Graduating from the School of Commerce in 1921, Donald Wesley Morse belonged to the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and participated in the debate team. Shortly after graduation in 1921, Morse married fellow alum Marguerite Volbrecht that same year. Morse died in 1923 from tuberculosis contracted in service during World War I.
