Abstract

The Herman A. Scullen Photographic Collection consists of images of Scullen, his first wife Johanne M. Fredericksen Scullen and their families. The collection also includes view cards of travels in Europe.

Biographical / Historical Notes

Born in Wisconsin in 1887, Herman A. Scullen came to OAC in 1920 to serve as an Instructor in Beekeeping for the Entomology Department. By 1935 Scullen earned a doctorate in Entomology from Iowa State University while continuing to teach at OSC. Renown as a world authority on the wasp genus "Cercerini," Scullen collected specimens on field trips through Mexico, Central America, and Europe. Remaining active in the field after attaining his emeritus status in 1953, Scullen died in 1981.
