The John V. Byrne Papers consist of a memoir written by OSU President Emeritus Byrne, in which he describes his life working as a professor and administrator at OSU in the School of Oceanography, the Research Office, and as the President of the university.

Scope and Content Notes

In addition to his discussion of life at OSU, Byrne's memoir also inludes a narrative of his childhood, college education, and work for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. This memoir, titled "Vince: The Memories of a Land-Grant University President," is a draft copy.

Biographical / Historical Notes

Arriving at OSU in 1960, John Byrne served as the first dean of the School of Oceanography and later as President of the university from 1984 to 1995. Byrne's service to the university spans more than forty years.
