Abstract

The Janet Taylor Papers document Taylor's role as a clothing specialist with Home Economics Extension in Clackamas County, Oregon.  Taylor worked with Home Economics Extension at Oregon State College from 1943 to 1954.

Scope and Content Notes

The Janet Taylor Papers document Taylor's role as a clothing specialist with Home Economics Extension in Clackamas County (Oregon) and include appointment calendars and schedules, brochures, correspondence, employment records, fabric samples, newspaper clippings, photographs, and an artifact.

The appointment calendars and schedules provide detailed information about Taylor's activities and include lists of home economics extension staff and publications.  The brochures include programs for the Clackamas County Homemakers' Festival presented by Oregon State College Home Economics Extension.  The correspondence includes letters of thanks and appreciation from individuals who participated in programs and trainings presented by Taylor as well as letters from Azalea Sager, the State Home Demonstration Leader, to Taylor about her new job at Oregon State College.  The collection includes a 1954 bulletin, Care of New Fabrics, written by Taylor.

The newspaper clippings include articles about Taylor's home demonstration programs and articles of personal interest.  The photographs consist of 8 photographic prints.  Most of the images are of home demonstration activities.  An image of a group of women and children identified as the Stafford Unit (1947) and a photograph of Taylor's friend, Betty Moomaw, wearing an American Red Cross uniform are also included.

Fabric swatches with examples of seams, facings, buttonholes, pockets, and plackets comprise about half of the collection.

The artifact is a webbing stretcher for upholstery work and is labeled "H.D.A. Oregon City", indicating that it belonged to the Home Demonstration Agent in Oregon City, Oregon.
