Abstract

The Student Regulations provide rules and guidance for Oregon State students on both academic and social matters from the 1910s until the early 1960s.  The regulations apply both to individual students and to student organizations.

Items from this collection have been digitized and are available in Oregon Digital.

Scope and Content Notes

The Student Regulations provide academic  and social regulations for individual students and student organizations from the 1910s to the early 1960s.  The regulations address social conduct, housing, participation in student activities, finances, use of college property, hazing, and academic dishonesty.  Regulations regarding the use of motor vehicles, firearms, alcohol, and tobacco are also specified.  During the 1910s, requirements for students to canoe on the Marys River are included.  The regulations were administered by various committees and the Offices of the Dean of Men and the Dean of Women.

The academic component of the regulations provide instructions for registration and adjustment of credits, class attendance, grading, academic probation, and graduation.

For 1915-1916 through 1917-1918 the regulations include degree requirements and the schedule of lectures, recitations, and laboratory periods.  Beginning in the 1920s, the regulations were published as the second part of the College's Administrative Regulations.  For three years in the early 1930s, the academic regulations for Oregon State College and the University of Oregon were published jointly.  It was during this time that a separate publication of Social Regulations appeared.

Most of the published regulations are available in paper form as part of this collection or in the History of OSU book collection.  However, there are a few items that are only available on microfilm in this collection and are described as Series 2.

The Rules and Regulations for the Pacfic Coast Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, published in about 1924, are also included in this collection.

Publication of the Student Regulations ceased in 1962.

Items from this collection have been digitized and are available in Oregon Digital.
