Abstract

The Virginia Marion Photographs depict the membership, activities and living quarters of Sigma Kappa sorority at Oregon State College in the mid-1940s. Virginia Marion was a Sigma Kappa member who attended OSC from 1943-1947, graduating with a degree in Home Economics.

Scope and Content Notes

The Virginia Marion Photographs consist of ten black and white images of Sigma Kappa sorority members, various sorority activities, and the Sigma Kappa house. Included in the photographs are scenes from a house dance, students wearing costumes for Sadie Hawkins Day, sorority pledges in formal dress on Initiation Day, and candid images of Sigma Kappa sisters riding bicycles, studying, and styling their hair. Likewise included are two photos of the Sigma Kappa chapter house in Corvallis, Oregon. Virginia Marion is identified in two of the photographs. All of the prints are annotated by Marion.

Biographical / Historical Notes

Virginia (Wright) Marion was born in Portland, Oregon in 1925 and raised in Tigard, Oregon. She attended Oregon State College from 1943-1947, graduating with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics. Wright was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority and Kappa Kappa Alpha art honor society during her years at OSC.
