Series I is primarily made up of correspondence and memoranda, but also includes reports. In addition to documenting the day-to-day administration of the Commission in areas such as membership selection and the organization of events and workshops, this series also reflects PCOSW's interaction with other OSU departments and programs.
Series II consists of records generated by PCOSW committees, subcommittees, and task forces and includes correspondence, memoranda, minutes, questionnaire results, and reports. The issues addressed by these committees include: faculty child care needs, lack of women faculty, the prevalence of sexual harassment on campus, campus lighting and other safety issues, and gender disparities among the graduate student population. Minutes of monthly PCOSW meetings and memoranda on the meeting agendas constitute series III.
The reports and studies in series IV were generated or collected by PCOSW and relate to the general climate for women at OSU and elsewhere in academia. Subjects covered in these reports include: the status of women in the Oregon System of Higher Education, availability of child care, women and philanthropy, the salary gap between men and women in academia, OSU graduate assistantships, OSU staff morale, and the OSU Women's Center. Series V consists of membership lists. Brochures and announcements for PCOSW and events sponsored by the Commission constitute series VI. Also included in this series are posted announcements for OSU jobs.
Series VII contains organizational mission statements from PCOSW and the Women's Institute. Series VIII consists of newspaper clippings from The Barometer, The Oregonian and The Corvallis Gazette-Times. Subjects addressed in the articles include: the Ms. OSU Pageant, Playboy Magazine's recruitment of OSU students for its annual PAC-10 pictorial, fraternity t-shirt controversy, and the neglect of date rape cases.
Accession 2003:048 consists of records from the President's Commission on the Status of Women (PCOSW) that were collected by commission member Chris Sproul. In addition to articles, correspondence, meeting minutes, and newspaper clippings generated by PCOSW, this accession also includes records from the President's Commission on Hate-Related Activities (later renamed President's Commission on Campus Climate). Christine Sproul, Director of International Education, was a member of PCOSW from 1992 to 1999 and served as Chair of the commission from 1995 to 1997. Sproul was also a member of the President's Commission on Hate-Related Activities, which formed in 1994.
Accession 2008:009 is made up of meeting minutes and an annual report generated by the President's Commission on the Status of Women reflecting the years 2006 and 2007. Also included in this transfer are two membership packets (for 2006/07 and 2007/08) which contain strategic plans, mission statements, brochures, committee descriptions, annual reports, membership lists, and committee application forms.
Accession 2011:041 is made up of materials generated and collected by the President's Commission on the Status of Women that includes award nomination paperwork, bylaws, correspondence, meeting minutes, membership rosters, notes, and reports. Among the topics addressed in these records include insurance coverage of midwife services, a comparison of salary compensation at OSU with peer institutions, work/life support services at OSU, and an overview of the Commission's interests and activities since its establishment in 1972.
Accession 2011:077 consists of materials generated by the President's Commission on the Status of Women that were collected by OSU Librarian Jane Nichols during her membership on the Commission from 2004 until 2008. Made up of bylaws, correspondence, membership lists, meeting minutes, notes, and reports, these records primarily document the revision of the Commission's bylaws and an evaluation of the university's promotion and tenure process.
