Abstract

Talons is a service-oriented honorary society for sophomore women founded at Oregon State College in 1933. The Talons Records include application materials, organization guidelines, meeting minutes, information about officers and members, project information, and scrapbooks.

Scope and Content Notes

Arranged into 6 series (see inventory). This collection includes minutes of general and executive committee meetings, lists of officers and members, application forms, and information about projects such as the dance for senior citizens and cookie sales. The bulk of the collection consists of eight scrapbooks from 1936-1961 containing clippings, correspondence, photographs and memorabilia documenting the organization's activities.

An addition to the Talons Records (Accession 2006:051) consists of a patch emblazoned with the word "Talons" for members of the OSU service honorary society for sophmore women. Included with the patch is a pin issued to Pat Cornog for being the Talons "member of the month".

Biographical / Historical Notes

Talons is a service honorary society for sophomore women. Talon members are chosen from outstanding freshmen women on the basis of leadership,scholarship, cooperation, and school spirit. Talons was founded in 1933 after the local chapter of Spurs, a national service society, went out of existence.
