Abstract
The Harry K. Phinney Papers consist of correspondence, grant proposals, meeting minutes, notes, photographs, publications and reports chiefly pertaining to the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (OIMB) and the Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC).
Scope and Content Notes
This collection includes records that document the early development of HMSC and instructional program planning at OIMB before the establishment of HMSC in 1965. Among the materials relating to HMSC are meeting minutes from the Oceanography-Zoology Committee on Marine Laboratory Design, grant proposals for the establishment of a Marine Sciences Laboratory and correspondence regarding instructional development. The records also highlight Phinney's work at HMSC and his interest in recording the history of the center. The photographs (numbering a total of 110 black and white 35 mm negatives and three contact sheets) depict various HMSC faculty and students involved in summer session classes in 1980.
