Abstract

The Cauthorn Club Records document student housing and activities at Oregon State College through financial records (1893-1896 and 1908-1909) and a rollbook and scrapbook (1928-1940).

Scope and Content Notes

The Cauthorn Club Records include financial records documenting room and board paid by men residents of the original Cauthorn Hall for the periods 1893-1896 and 1908-1909 and a rollbook and scrapbook documenting the members and activities of the Cauthorn Club from the late 1920s until 1940. The scrapbook includes photographs and ephemera of club member and student body president, Robert W. (Bob) Henderson.

Biographical / Historical Notes

The original Cauthorn Hall (now Fairbanks Hall) was constructed in 1892 as the first men's dormitory at Oregon Agricultural College and served as the men's dormitory until 1912. It was named for Oregon Senator Thomas E. Cauthorn, who obtained the state funding for construction of the building.

When Weatherford Hall was completed in 1928, the four units of the structure were named for four prominent supporters of Oregon State College: Thomas E. Cauthorn, Daniel V. Poling, Curtis L. Hawley, and Austin T. Buxton. The Cauthorn Club was an organization of men residents of the Cauthorn wing of Weatherford Hall.
