Abstract

The Thurza Boies Papers include photographs and memorabilia that document Boies' life and, in particular, her undergraduate experience at Oregon Agricultural College in the early 1910s.

Scope and Content Notes

Accession 2004:078 consists of materials generated and collected by alumna Thurza Boies pertaining to her experience at Oregon State. Primarily made up of photographs, other materials in this transfer include commencement programs, correspondence, newspaper clippings, and an event program. The images, numbering 39 prints in all, depict Thurza with fellow classmates and friends, class reunion group shots, a class trip to Marys Peak, and a graduation portrait. Correspondence and newspaper clippings in this accession relate to class reunion gatherings and T. J. Starker.

Accession 2005:078 is an addition to the Thurza Boies Papers and consists of brochures, correspondence, flyers, newspaper clippings, photographs, two scrapbooks, and an appointment calendar/diary. Primarily documenting Boies' 92nd and 93rd birthdays, rafting and hot-air balloon ride excursions, these materials also include a clipping about her collection of Madonna sculptures and a scrapbook pertaining to Boies family reunions from 1932 to 1961.

Biographical / Historical Notes

Graduating from Oregon Agricultural College in 1915 with a degree in Home Economics, Thurza married Joseph Russell, a fellow alumnus, and lived in Corvallis after college. Beth Russell is Thurza's daughter.
