Abstract

The Technology Educators of Oregon Records consist of administrative and member-related records which document the activities of this statewide organization and several of its founding associations. The Technology Educators of Oregon (TEO) encourages and supports technology programs in Oregon middle schools, high schools, and colleges. This organization was established in 1990 with the merger of the Oregon Vocational Trade and Technical Association (OVTTA) and the Oregon Technology Education Association (OTEA).

Scope and Content Notes

The Technology Educators of Oregon Records consist of materials pertaining to the administrative and member related records of this statewide organization and several of its founding Associations. The records include the agenda and minutes of the Executive Board and issues of the organization's newsletter, TEC-ED NEWS.

These records also include administrative, financial, membership and program related materials of the Oregon Vocational Trade and Technical Association (OVTTA) and the Oregon Industrial Arts Association (OIAA), later known as the Oregon Technology Education Association (OTEA). Board minutes, budgets, constitutions, correspondence, handbooks, newsletters, and membership rosters are included.

The records also include The Shop Teacher, published by the Industrial Arts Department of the Portland (Oregon) Public Schools in the early 1960s.

Biographical / Historical Notes

The Technology Educators of Oregon (TEO) was established in 1990 as a statewide membership organization to support and encourage technology programs in Oregon middle schools, high schools, and colleges. The TEO works to enhance educational opportunities in automotives, construction, electronics, manufacturing, and technology. This organization was established with the merger in 1990 of the Oregon Vocational Trade and Technical Association (OVTTA) and the Oregon Technology Education Association (OTEA). The OTEA was formerly known as the Oregon Industrial Arts Association (OIAA) and the Oregon Industrial Education Association (OIEA).

Acquisition Note: These records were donated to the Archives in 1991-1994 by Michael F. Murphy, an Assistant Professor of Vocational Education at OSU and a board member of the Technology Educators of Oregon. Additional materials were submitted regularly by the organization from 1997 through 2001.

Related Materials: Photographs depicting Oregon State Industrial Arts shops and equipment, faculty, and student projects as well as lantern slides used for instruction are available in the Industrial Arts and Industrial Manufacturing Department Photographs (P 189). The Industrial Arts Department Motion Picture Film (FV 189) documents a program to encourage vocational training in the building and construction trades in the 1940s. Records documenting the instruction and outreach activities of the Industrial Arts Department are part of the Vocational and Technical Education Department Records (RG 146), College of Engineering Records (RG 062), and the Robert Claude Wilson Papers (MSS WilsonR). Materials pertaining to training of vocational education teachers are part of the School of Education Records (RG 184).
