Biographical / Historical Notes

Lewis Kelly Scott was born Sept. 12, 1928, to Clarence Kelly Scott and Laura Duerner Scott in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.  His family moved to Portland, Oregon, when he was an infant.  Scott graduated from Grant High School before attending Stanford for college (BA, 1950) and law school (LL.B, 1952).

He married his high school sweetheart, Janice Lee Gildow on December 27, 1950, in Portland.  The couple had one daughter, Kelly.

Shortly after their wedding, Lewis and Janice moved to Europe for Scott’s job in the Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG Corps).  They returned to Portland in 1957 when Scott became a partner specializing in labor law with Koerner, Young, McColloch & Dezendorf.  Scott likely collected these uniform labor agreements in the course of his career.  He represented the Associated General Contractors of the State of Oregon and Southwest Washington for many years.  Scott retired in 1999.
