Series 1: Numbered Files, 1983-2004 Add to Shelf

Series I is made up of numbered reports, newspaper clippings and articles, journal articles, and correspondence produced or gathered by VanLeeuwen that describe the Spotted Owl-Timber industry conflict of the late 1980s-early 1990s. Topics covered include discussions of possible revisions to the Endangered Species Act, the effect that listing the Northern Spotted Owl would have on the Oregon timber industry as well as individuals working in the industry, and the biology and natural history of the Northern Spotted Owl.

Items in this series were initially lent by VanLeeuwen to Ben Stout, who used the materials as reference sources for his book: The Northern Spotted Owl: An Oregon View. Stout compiled the following item level inventory for these materials. A copy of his book is available in the OSU Library.
