Scope and Content Note
The collection includes Materials Lab records (1927-1950); Graf Hall construction records (1919); student lab projects (1933-1940); EWEB project records (1971); professional organizations records (1927-1935); and machinery, equipment and project plans and drawings (1914-1940). Also included are teaching materials and research reports created and/or assembled by Louis Slegel, Mechanical Engineering professor. Within this collection are also 30 hand rendered drawings for mechanical drawing classes taught between 1894 and 1908. Drawn and signed by three different students (Charles G. Porter, Jesse S. Gilkey, and Vernon W. Gilkey), these renderings depict a variety of geometric shapes and designs as well as pistons, bolts, gears, a wood turning lathe, a grindstone, and an automatic air brake for a train engine.
Charles G. Porter received a degree in mechanical engineering in 1896. Jesse S. Gilkey graduated in 1909 with a degree in electrical engineering. Vernon Gilkey attended between 1904 and 1908, but took no degree.
