Ade Schwammel Collection, 1931-2005

Ad Schwammel was an Oregon State College student and football player from 1930-1934 and was chosen as an All-American at tackle for the 1933 season. His papers include photographs, newspaper clippings, a drawing by an Associated Press sports cartoonist, and an embroidered "O" from Schwammel's letterman's jacket, and other items.

The James A. Sewell Photograph Album consists of a photographic album assembled by Sewell documenting a wide variety of student activities while he was a student at Oregon Agricultural College at the beginning of the 20th century. Sewell, the grandson of Oregon pioneers Henry Sewell and Isaac Allen, returned to Hillsboro and was a farmer until his death in 1959.

Eleanor May and Frances Miriam Spike graduated from OAC in 1925 with degrees in home economics; Mary Marcella Spike attended OAC in 1931-1934, studying pharmacy.

Eugene Starr Papers

Eugene Starr Papers, 1911-1988

Eugene Starr (1901-1988) enjoyed a widespread reputation as a distinguished scientist and engineer. A 1923 graduate of Oregon Agricultural College, he achieved international recognition for his work in the fields of electrical engineering and nuclear physics. In 1958 Starr was awarded the Department of the Interior's highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award, for his work with the Bonneville Power Administration. Starr's papers include personal correspondence and scientific reports, with a focus on his work in nuclear fission and the transmission of high-voltage electricity.

The Douglas C. Strain Papers consist of materials generated and assembled by Strain and document his establishment of Electro Scientific Industries (ESI) and professional and philanthropic activities as well as his family. Strain founded Electro Scientific Industries, a manufacturer of precision instrumentation and laser fabrication systems, in Portland, Oregon, in 1953. He was actively involved in a civic organizations and boards and supported a number of projects at Oregon higher education institutions, including Oregon State University.
