Ava Helen and Linus Pauling Papers, 1873-2013

Linus Pauling (1901-1994), a 1922 OSU graduate and the only recipient of two unshared Nobel Prizes, (Chemistry, 1954; Peace, 1962) undertook a wide range of studies during his seventy-year career as a scientist, humanitarian and peace activist. The collection, comprised of over five hundred thousand items, contains all of Pauling's personal and scientific papers, research materials, correspondence, photographs, awards, and memorabilia. Not only does the Pauling archive reflect Linus Pauling's long and varied scientific career, the presence of Ava Helen Pauling's (1903-1981) papers also indicates their mutual devotion to world peace and to each other.

The William G. Pearcy Papers document Pearcy's research, honors and awards, and interactions with colleagues and collaborators. William G. Pearcy was a Professor of Oceanography at Oregon State University from 1960 until his retirement in 1990. As a biological oceanographer, Pearcy studied the ocean ecology of Pacific salmon.

Phyllis Pendell Collection

Phyllis Pendell Collection, 1877-1966

The Phyllis Pendell Collection consists of materials generated and collected by Oregon State College alumna Phyllis Pendell and her family. The materials document her public schooling in Portland (Oregon) in the 1930s and her experiences as a student at Oregon State College in the early 1940s. The Collection consists predominantly of photographs of Pendell's family, primarily her mother's family (the Vernons). Many of the photographs were made in Oroville and San Francisco, California and in Idaho.

Pernot Family Photographic Collection, 1870-1940

The Pernot Family Photographic Collection documents members of the Pernot and Coote families and includes images of the Oregon Agricultural College campus and faculty. Emile Pernot taught photography at Oregon Agricultural College beginning in 1890 and became the first chair of the Bacteriology Department in 1900. He married Edith Coote, daughter of OAC horticulturist George Coote.

Pharmacy instruction began at Oregon Agricultural college in 1898; Ernst Stuhr was a member of the pharmacy faculty from 1927 to 1944.

The OSU Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi was established in 1924.
