Sigurd Harlon Peterson was born on December 27th, 1886. He attended the University of Minnesota and obtained his BA in 1910. In 1911 Peterson was hired as an instructor of English at Oregon Agricultural College. He became an assistant professor in 1913 and an associate professor in 1921. He was promoted to head of the English Department in 1932. Peterson also served as advisor to the Sigma Nu fraternity for forty years. He died at age 76, after a long illness.
