Dr. Alan T. Waterman, Director
National Science Foundation
Washington 25, D.C.
Dear Dr. Waterman:
I submit herewith an application to the National Science Foundation for a grant
for support of research on configurations of polypeptide chains in proteins.
I think that the success that has been obtained in the investigations along this
line during recent years indicates that further progress can be made. The problem
of determining the structure of proteins is, or course, a very difficult one, and
it is hard to predict what can be done; nevertheless, I feel optimistic about it.
Sincerely yours,
