  Dear Madame:

  I enclose a copy of a letter that I have sent to the Postmaster General. After my telephone conversations with you, in which you said that the end of the delivery service was at Gorda, and that there was nothing that you could do about it, I decided that I should take this action. I hope that you are given authorization to deliver our mail to Salmon Creek. This would reduce very much the danger that you spoke to me about, of our mail being stolen from the mailbox.

  After talking with you by telephone I noticed that I had misunderstood one of your statements. You said that you had heard over TV that I was in Washington, and I said that I had not been in Washington for a year. Recently the question of my coming to Washington, D. C. has been on my mind, and I had decided not to make the trip. I was, three weeks ago, in British Columbia and also in Seattle, Washington — I forgot about the State of Washington, which I had visited briefly, because I was concerned about the matter of the trip to Washington, D. C.

  I continue to be worried by the statement that you made to me over the telephone on Tuesday, 26 October, that mail has been stolen from mailboxes along California State Highway No, 1. Our mailbox is 8 miles from our home at Salmon Creek, and it is impossible for us to keep an eye on it. Also, it is impossible for us to collect the mail every day, because we are not in residence at Salmon Creek every day and our caretaker does not drive a car. If the mail were to be delivered to Salmon Creek, he could remove the mail from the box immediately after delivery every day, and in this way prevent mail from being stolen. I shall be grateful to you for your help with this matter.
