  Dear Professor Bromley:

  During the last several years I have been working on the problem of the structure of atomic nuclei, considered essentially as aggregates of hellions and tritons.

  I have become interested in your papers published jointly with Drs. Kuehner and Almqvist (to whom I am sending copies of this letter), end I am writing to ask you your opinion of an idea that I have had about the structure of the complex of two carbonic nuclei whose existence is indicated by your measurements of elastic scattering.

  I would expect that a deformed magnesium-24 nucleus would exist, with the structure of two tetrahedra sharing an edge; that is, an aggregate of 6 helions, 2 of which are shared between the 2 tetrahadra defined by having helions at their corners.

  If the tetrahedron edges are all taken to have the value 3.2f, the principal moments of inertia have the values 3.2, 5.1, and 6.1 times 10^-48 gram centimeter² (I surmise that the shared edge is shortened somewhat, and the other edges lengthened somewhat, in such a way that the two large values become a little larger.)

  Have you attempted to evaluate a moment of inertia from your experimental excitation curves?

  This elongated double tetrahedron structure for magnesium 24 would be metastable, separated from the normal (octahedral) structure by a potential hump. I estimate that it a energy, relative to the normal state, is approximately as indicated by your scattering results.

  I shall look forward to learning what your opinion of this proposal is.
