  • Confidential Memorandum by LP, RE: Discusses the talk he had with Mr. Louis Zeitz about his situation at the University of Redlands. Explains that Zeitz was apponited Reseach Fellow to work on an electron micrscopy project with Dr. Baez in December 1955. In September 1956, President Armacost told Dr. Baez that Zeitz had some black marks on his record, but Zeitz prepared a statement saying that he was not a member of the Communist Party even though he refused to testify before the Burns Committee. Explains that Zeitz has continued on a month to month basis without a letter of appointment at Redlands, but that he is supported by Dr. Baez who thinks he should finish the work he is doing. Says that it was reported to Armacost that Zeitz was recently seen at a subversive meeting, which Zeitz denies. Says that Zeitz is worried that this situation still exists in California and that he asked LP if the ACLU might take interest in this matter.
