Letter from Linus Pauling to Arthur J. Hill. May 29, 1956

Pauling asks permission to use the pyrimidines and pyrimidine derivatives synthesized by Professor Treat B. Johnson. He explains his interest in the molecular structure of pyrimidines and purines, noting the limited research that has been done in the field. Pauling describes the substance characteristics best suited for x-ray crystallography analysis. He inquires about Professor Hill's possession of Dr. Johnson's collection of synthesized substances, and asks to use the entire collection. Pauling also discusses the likelihood of returning the samples and concludes his letter by stating that his work does not conflict with the research of any other group.  View Transcript
