  • Letter from Dr. Clarence E. Rupe, Secretary, International Symposium on Enzymes, to LP RE: Finds that in their last exchange of letters, both he and LP refer to 12:15 AM on November 1 as the departing time from Detroit. Thinks they both understood that the flight leaves 15 minutes into November 2, arriving in Los Angeles at 8 AM on November 2. Requests that LP's secretary check on those reservations. Due to the large expected audience, LP's address will be held in the Statler Ball Room. Wonders what projection equipment LP will need and whether he will use a blackboard. [Letter from Gaebler to LP July 19, 1955, Letter from Wulf to Rupe October 7, 1955] [Filed under LP Speeches: 1955s.25]
  • Letter from Dr. M.I. Pratt, Biophysics Research Unit, King's College, England, to LP RE: A new course of lectures entitled "The Nature and Properties of Large Molecules," has been planned for King's College undergraduates. The lectures will aim to introduce students to the field of biophysics and to interest students in biophysics research. In addition to Professor Randall, members of the Academic Staff and the Biophysics Research Staff will be giving lectures. Dr. M.H.F Wilkins suggested that Pratt request that LP send six copies of his article "Antibodies and Specific Biological Forces." Wilkins would like to recommend that the students read the article. • Letter from LP to Herbert L. Baer RE: Thanks for letter of congratulations of last January, ". . . It was a pleasure to have seen you and Mrs. Baer again on the plane. It is interesting that we should have met by accident more than once. My wife and I could have told you, when we were on the plane, that it seemed likely that the Swedish Academy would make the decision that it did make a couple of days later—apparently the competition was such that members of the Swedish Academy felt that they could predict the result of the balloting, and the news had leaked out already; but, of course, it was uncertain, and we might have been tempting fate by having a celebration prematurely..."
