    Dr. W. H. Taylor

    Cavendish Laboratory

    Free School Lane

    Cambridge, England

    Dear Taylor:

I have checked up on the present state of the hydroxyproline investigation at this Institution.

The investigation has now been completed. The structure appears to be the same as Zussman's. It is based on complete (hkl) data, and I judge that the atoms have been very closely located. Dr. Jerry Donohue is planning to go to the Stockholm Conference, and to discuss the work there. A paper describing the results will shortly be sent to the Journal of the American Chemical Society for publication.

I am sure that Dr. Donohue is looking forward to seeing how closely Zussman's parameters check with those that he has found. He has suggested that a comparison of the two sets of observed F values and of the final parameters should be made somewhere. Would you think it worth while to try to arrange between Zussman and Donohue for a jointly prepared discussion of this point to be submitted to Acta?

I am sorry that I have no plan for coming abroad in the near future, but I shall hope to see you at sometime before too long.

    Sincerely yours,

    Linus Pauling:W
