Wilson, Yenching University, China to LP RE: Writes regarding one of his graduates, Wei-cheng Wu, who is applying to Caltech, and he wrote a formal recommendation to the school but wanted to add a word to LP personally. Feels that Wu is a young man of unusual promise and recommends him highly. Writes also about another graduate, T'ien-ch'in Ts'ao, who is a student in what the English call “Part II Chemistry of the Natural Science Tripos” at Cambridge University, advised Ts'ao to consider Caltech for further study, recommends him highly as well and gives some of his research history. Mentions that they are very pleased with LP's General Chemistry and talks about specific examples from the book. Adds that Yenching is gradually getting on its feet after the war, but the process is slow, and he expects to retire in 1949. (Handwritten postscript: “P.S.
