Dear Linus,

I appreciate the major role you played in making my birthday celebration a memorable occasion for my family and me, and I thank you will all my heart. I thank you also for your contribution toward the Encyclopedia Brittannica, in which I note that you wrote part of the section in the Chemical Elements. Your biographical sketch states that you left U.C. Santa Barbara to go to Stanford. Rose and I look forward to seeing you again next year.
