Born in Port Hueneme, California in 1950, Larry Kirkland attended OSU from 1968-1972. Kirkland studied art as an undergraduate, working in the Instructional Materials and Research Center and completing a B.S. degree at the end his four years of study. He then moved on to the University of Kansas where, in 1974, he took a M.F.A. degree in design, focusing on fiber arts. From there, Kirkland returned to OSU to fill a temporary vacancy created by a faculty member on sabbatical leave. Kirkland served as Visiting Professor of Art at OSU from 1974-1976.
