Denis P. Lavender Papers

Denis P. Lavender Papers, 1935-2008

The Denis P. Lavender Papers document the forestry research conducted by Lavender at Oregon State University and the University of British Columbia, especially regarding conifer seedlings and reforestation. Lavender earned his MS and Ph.D. degrees in forestry at Oregon State University in the late 1950s and early 1960s and then became a Professor of Forest Science until 1984. In 1985-1992, he was head of the Forest Science Department at the University of British Columbia.

William Evans Lawrence Photographs, 1938-1946

The William Evans Lawrence Photographs consist of images, primarily color slides, taken by Lawrence of various locations in Oregon, California, and Nevada and three log books describing the images. Lawrence was a faculty member in botany and plant ecology at Oregon State College from 1910 to 1947; he spent the 1942-1943 academic year on sabbatical in California.

Lucy Lewis Scrapbook

Lucy Lewis Scrapbook, 1914-1915

The Lucy Lewis Scrapbook humorously documents a twelve-day hiking excursion taken by Lewis and six companions in 1915 to Mount Jefferson, a peak in Oregon's Cascade Range. The scrapbook contains an extensive narrative, a list of previous climbers successful in summiting Mount Jefferson, a full accounting of provisions, a Santiam National Forest brochure, a small ink and watercolor painting, and more than 100 photographs. In 1911 Lucy Lewis began her career at Oregon Agricultural College as an assistant librarian and, in 1920, was appointed College Librarian. She retired in 1944.
