scientists, with special emphasis placed on individuals who knew and worked with Linus
Pauling. Also included are interviews with members of the Pauling family as well
as interviews with family members of other scientists.

history, ecology, and culture of the Soap Creek
Valley in Benton County, Oregon.

(1901-1988) enjoyed a widespread reputation as a distinguished
scientist and engineer. A 1923 graduate of Oregon Agricultural College,
he achieved international recognition for his work in the fields of
electrical engineering and nuclear physics. In 1958 Starr was awarded
the Department of the Interior's highest honor, the Distinguished
Service Award, for his work with the Bonneville Power Administration.
Starr's papers include personal correspondence and scientific reports,
with a focus on his work in nuclear fission and the transmission of
115 linear feet; 235 boxes

The A.L. Strand Oral History Collection documents an oral history project conducted
in the early 1980s to
capture recollections and remembrances of A.L. Strand, President of Oregon State from
1942 to 1961. The collection includes recordings
and transcripts of 10 oral history interviews, written remembrances and recollections,
and extensive project records.
