Scope and Content Note
The Oregon State University Mothers Club Records consist of records of the statewide organization as well as the units in Eugene and Springfield; Corvallis; Pendleton and Umatilla County; and Salem.
The statewide organization records include annual reports and annual meeting minutes; secretary's records; executive board files; scholarship records; OSU Foundation materials; state directories; and scrapbooks. The scrapbooks comprise the bulk of the statewide records and include clippings, photographs, ephemera, meeting minutes, and reports. The scrapbooks include extensive information about unit activities.
The Eugene and Springfield Unit records include annual reports, bylaws and consitutions, correspondence, financial statements, meeting minutes and agendas, membership lists, photographs, and publications. Most of the records are arranged chronologically as they were originally housed in notebooks. The records also document the activities of the Unit's Quilt Committee, which created quilts that were raffled to raise funds for scholarships, and include photographs of the quilts. Artifacts include a banner and a pair of orange gloves and a bell that were used as part of the ceremonial opening of the unit's meetings.
The Corvallis Unit records consist of minutes and financial records for 1934-1940 and three scrapbooks for the period 1934-1976 that document the activities of the unit. They primarily consist of clippings and ephemera with a few photographs. The Corvallis records also include an undated recipe booklet (circa 1970s) for coffee and tea breads served at the unit's Fall Coffee.
The Pendleton (Umatilla County) records include meeting minutes, newspaper clippings, event guest lists, correspondence, and related materials. The Salem Unit records include the unit's bylaws (1953) and minutes for 1941-1951.
All photographs in the collection are affixed in scrapbooks. They include color and b/w prints, primarily of statewide and unit officers and unit activities.
An addition to the Mothers Club Records (Accession 2009:090) consists of materials generated by the club's state board as well as several regional units such as the Junction City/Harrisbu/files/archives/rg/Monroe chapter; the Beaverton/Aloha/Sunset chapter and the Eugene/Springfield chapter. Documenting club administration, membership management, Mom's Weekend planning, and fundraising events organized by its various regional branches, these records include: annual reports, bylaws, constitutions, correspondence, financial statements, flyers, meeting minutes, membership directories, newspaper clippings, photographs, scrapbooks, and buttons. In addition to depicting fundraising events organized by the various regional units (such as the Scandinavian Festival breakfasts coordinated by the Junction City chapter) the photographs also document state board meetings, social gatherings, and active members such as Janet Harper. Numbering 60 prints in total, the scrapbooks also contain photographs. A few items reflecting the work of the OSU Dad's Club board were also found in this transfer.
A second addition to the Mothers Club Records (Accession 2009:097) is made up of annual reports, brochures, bylaws, constitutions, correspondence, meeting minutes and agendas, membership directories, a newsletter, newspaper clippings, survey materials, and a button. Collected by club president and Junction City unit member Janet Harper, these materials reflect general administrative activities of the club as well as interaction with the OSU Foundation, a survey of members about the scholarship fund, the club's dedication of a new Trysting Tree on campus, and nomination of club member Kathleen Huston as "Oregon Mother of the Year." Also found in this transfer are materials pertaining to reunions organized by Harper of former residents of the Pines cooperative house.
A third addition to the Mothers Club Records (Accession 2011:047) includes materials generated and collected by the Scholarship Committee of the club and includes constitutions/bylaws, correspondence, meeting minutes, lists of award recipients, officer lists, and scholarship application blanks.
